On 1-5 December, a delegation led by Mr. Eduard Hakobyan, the Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia took part in the 9th High-Level Meeting of the Asia Initiative, held within the framework of the 18th annual conference of the OECD Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes in New Delhi, India. Armenia co-chaired the meeting, with Eduard Hakobyan presiding alongside Mr. Hassan Zarir, Head of the Tax Administration of the Maldives.
During the meeting, Chairman Hakobyan reaffirmed the importance of the principles adopted by the Asia Initiative for countries in the region, highlighting their role in strengthening tax revenue collection, improving tax compliance, and combating illicit financial flows.
He emphasized that implementing international standards on tax transparency and the exchange of information is essential, noting that Armenia has consistently been and remains a leading country in adopting and advancing these standards.

During a high-level panel discussion, Chairman Hakobyan presented Armenia’s efforts towards improving standards for the exchange of information in the Asian region. He noted that despite the significant growth in information exchange, particularly over the past two years, further progress remains necessary. In this context, Hakobyan stressed the importance of capacity-building initiatives and active engagement with all technical assistance tools offered by the Global Forum. Hakobyan also addressed the implementation of the automatic exchange of financial account information standard, highlighting the need to develop concepts and guidance for the effective use of the information received. In closing, the chairman emphasized that without active engagement in regional cooperation and platforms for exchanging experience, it will not be possible to achieve a level of tax transparency that ensures taxes are paid in the countries where economic activity actually takes place.
